Employment Law
Whether employer or employee, this course will help you to understand your rights and obligations under employment law. Using real case studies, you will get tips on building up or defending a case. Key legislation and pending changes are also outlined. Participants do not need any legal knowledge and the emphasis is on practical problem-solving.
Aim: Achieve understanding of employees’ rights and obligations
On completion participants will be able to:
- Identify the key terms of an employment contract
- Explain the main points of key employment legislation
- Outline rights of young employees
- Define discrimination under the Equality Acts
- Outline the rules governing holiday and other leave
- Explain the law governing health and safety, bullying and harassment
- Outline the rules relating to immigrant workers
- Give practical tips on building up a case
- Refer to relevant information or enforcement agencies.

Coming Up
A Public Information Presentation entitled ‘Making a Will won’t kill you’ is to take place in Beara, County Cork at Eyeries National School at 7.30pm on Tuesday 23 February 2016. Hosted by Eyeries NS Parents’ Association and delivered by Anne O’Carroll of Cascade Training Consultancy, this jargon-free presentation gives practical tips on how to make a will, what happens if you don’t and how best to provide for your loved ones, avail of tax breaks and ensure peace of mind. This event is a fund-raiser for the school and is open to all, but parents of young children or other dependents are particularly encouraged to attend. There will be a Question & Answer session afterwards and handouts will be provided.
