Negotiation Skills

Too often ‘negotiation’ is about getting the most and giving the least. This course promotes the concept of Principled Negotiation, not only because it is more mutually beneficial, but because it is more efficient. The focus is on achieving long-term business aims rather than short-term gain.

Aim: Optimise effective strategies for the negotiation process.

On completion participants will be able to:

  • Prepare for the negotiation process
  • Understand their own personal negotiation style
  • Compare and contrast own personal negotiation style with that of others to identify synthesis
  • Avoid reliance on Winner/Loser or _Attack/ Defense_ strategies
  • Opt for mutuality and convergence as opposed to hierarchy and conversion
  • Identify the role of non-verbal communication during the negotiation process
  • Learn the etiquette of an intercultural negotiation and the cultural impact rituals that may follow (for specific culture groups, determined pre-course)
  • Develop respect and flexibility
  • Learn how to get past ‘No’, and get to ‘Yes’
