Handling another person’s Legal Affairs

Whether you are concerned about the prospect of having to take over a relative’s affairs, or are considering the need to have another handle your own affairs, this course covers the practicalities and legalities involved. You will learn how and why to appoint an executor, trustee or guardian and/or set up a

power of attorney. Participants do not require any previous legal knowledge.

Aim: Establish different legal methods for handling another’s legal, personal and financial affairs

On completion participants will be able to:

  • Outline the role of executor/administrator, attorney, trustee, guardian and next friend
  • Outline procedures for appointing someone to act on your behalf
  • Suggest when you might want to act on another’s behalf
  • Define the powers granted under a general / enduring power of attorney
  • Synopsise the position of a Ward of Court
  • Advise on the legal validity of a ‘living will’
  • Identify common misconceptions and pitfalls
  • Refer to relevant advisory, information and support agencies.

A Public Information Presentation entitled ‘Making a Will won’t kill you’ is to take place in Beara, County Cork at Eyeries National School at 7.30pm on Tuesday 23 February 2016. Hosted by Eyeries NS Parents’ Association and delivered by Anne O’Carroll of Cascade Training Consultancy, this jargon-free presentation gives practical tips on how to make a will, what happens if you don’t and how best to provide for your loved ones, avail of tax breaks and ensure peace of mind. This event is a fund-raiser for the school and is open to all, but parents of young children or other dependents are particularly encouraged to attend. There will be a Question & Answer session afterwards and handouts will be provided.
